Performance pads
Use controller pads for effects, temporary loops and key changes in Ora DJ.
Hold a PAD FX pad to apply its effect to the selected deck. Release it to stop that pad. Echo and reverb effects can leave a tail after release.
You can hold different effects together. When two pads control the same effect, the most recent press takes over. Releasing it does not reactivate an older pad that is still held. Release and press the older pad again to use it.
Release Echo, Vinyl Brake and Backspin cancel other active PAD FX on their deck. Ordinary pads pressed while a Release FX is held do not start automatically when it ends. Other decks and the regular FX unit retain their own controls.
Controller banks
DDJ-400, DDJ-FLX4, DDJ-800, DDJ-1000 and DDJ-FLX10 use their native PAD FX bank addresses. DDJ-GRV6 and DDJ-FLX6 currently use Bank 1 through their native PAD FX mode. Bank 2 selection is not currently exposed in the interface.
DDJ-FLX2 uses the first bank through its native PAD FX mode. The Serato-family controllers have their own Roll and Trans mappings, described below.
| Bank 1 | Pad 1 | Pad 2 | Pad 3 | Pad 4 | Pad 5 | Pad 6 | Pad 7 | Pad 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Roll 1/2 | Sweep 80 | Flanger 16 | Vinyl Brake 3/4 | Echo 1/4 | Echo 1/2 | Reverb 50 | Release Echo 1/2 |
| SHIFT | Trans 1/2 | Crush 40 | Filter LFO: unavailable | Backspin 4 | MT Delay 1/8 | Dub Echo 30 | Space 30 | Release Echo 1 |
| Bank 2 | Pad 1 | Pad 2 | Pad 3 | Pad 4 | Pad 5 | Pad 6 | Pad 7 | Pad 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Slip Loop 1/16 | Slip Loop 1/8 | Slip Loop 1/4 | Slip Loop 1/2 | Reverse Roll 1/16 | Reverse Roll 1/8 | Reverse Roll 1/4 | Reverse Roll 1/2 |
| SHIFT | Trans 1/16 | Trans 1/8 | Trans 1/4 | Trans 1/2 | MT Delay 1/16 | MT Delay 1/8 | MT Delay 1/4 | MT Delay 1/2 |
Fractions are beat lengths. Sweep, Crush, Reverb, Dub Echo and Space use fixed preset amounts. Filter LFO is unavailable; its pad does not substitute another effect. There is no preset editor.
Roll and Slip Loop
Roll captures a short section of audio and repeats it. Reverse Roll repeats a preceding section backward. Releasing either returns to the advancing track.
Slip Loop temporarily loops the track while its background position advances. Release the pad to return to that position. This works independently of the user's Slip toggle and restores an ordinary loop that was active beforehand. An explicit seek or loop edit takes precedence over the temporary pad loop.
DDJ-SB3 and DDJ-1000SRT
These controllers' native Roll mode uses a temporary transport loop. Ora DJ's initial eight sizes run from 1/32 to 4 beats. The hardware range controls described below shift this set up to 1/4 to 32 beats. Changes affect the next press, while a held pad retains its captured assignment.
On DDJ-1000SRT, the Roll mode's PARAMETER buttons change the range. On DDJ-SB3, enter Roll with SHIFT + FX FADE; the 1/2X and 2X buttons then change the range. Outside Roll mode, they retain their ordinary loop-size controls.
DDJ-SB3's SHIFT + SAMPLER selects Trans mode. Pads 1–7 use cuts of 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2 and 4 beats. Hold pad 8 for a manual cut and release it to restore audio. These are Ora DJ's assignments, not imported Serato preferences.
Key Shift pads
DDJ-400, DDJ-FLX4, DDJ-GRV6, DDJ-FLX6, DDJ-800, DDJ-1000 and DDJ-FLX10 support Key Shift pages. SHIFT + pad 7/8 moves to the previous/next page. Navigation stops at the first and last pages.
| Page | Pad 1 | Pad 2 | Pad 3 | Pad 4 | Pad 5 | Pad 6 | Pad 7 | Pad 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | +12 | Unassigned | Unassigned | Unassigned | +8 | +9 | +10 | +11 |
| 2, initial | +4 | +5 | +6 | +7 | 0 | +1 | +2 | +3 |
| 3 | −4 | −3 | −2 | −1 | −8 | −7 | −6 | −5 |
| 4 | −12 | −11 | −10 | −9 | Unassigned | Unassigned | Unassigned | Unassigned |
| 5 | Key Sync | +1 step | +7 | +12 | Reset | −1 step | −5 | −12 |
Numeric pads set an absolute semitone offset. The step controls move from the current offset, within −12 to +12 semitones. Key Sync requires usable key data and another suitable deck; it does not enable Beat Sync.
Regular effects and recovery
The regular FX dropdown includes the shared effect processors used by the pads. It keeps separate effect state, so selecting a regular effect does not change the PAD presets.
Loading or unloading a track, disconnecting a controller, or restarting the audio bridge clears active pad effects. Old held pads do not start an effect on the replacement track. Release and press again after recovery.
