Question 1

What is Ora DJ?

Accepted Answer

Ora DJ is a modern, full alternative to Rekordbox: one app for the whole DJ workflow. Import and tag your library, structure set playlists in chapters, explore track relationships on a visual canvas, and rehearse with your controller. Then export finished playlists back to Rekordbox for the booth.

Question 2

Who is Ora DJ for?

Accepted Answer

Ora DJ is built for DJs who actively prepare their sets: club DJs, house and techno DJs, open-format DJs, bedroom DJs who want to be more intentional, and anyone with a large library who keeps playing the same recent imports instead of rediscovering their full collection.

Question 3

Do I still need Rekordbox?

Accepted Answer

Not for preparing a USB. Organize your library, plan a set, and rehearse in Ora DJ, then export the finished playlist straight to a USB drive for CDJs. USB export is free. You can still export Rekordbox XML if you prefer to finish in Rekordbox, and Rekordbox remains the tool for DVS, streaming, lighting, and video.

Question 4

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

Download Ora DJ for Mac or Windows and create your account in the app. Import your music library or bring your Rekordbox library directly. Ora Free includes every desktop feature and unlimited tracks.

Question 5

What are Set Chapters?

Accepted Answer

Set Chapters let you break your playlist into structured sections like warm-up, groove, peak, reset, closing, or custom sections you define. Instead of one flat track list, you can see the arc of your performance and plan each section intentionally. Chapters stay in Ora DJ; the finished track order can be exported as a playlist for Rekordbox.

Question 6

What is the Visual Canvas?

Accepted Answer

The Visual Canvas lets you map your tracks spatially by energy, BPM, key, genre, mood, or custom tags. You can see how tracks relate to each other, discover clusters and transition paths, and plan alternative routes through your library, in a way that is easier to understand than a long scrolling list.

Question 7

How does library management work in Ora DJ?

Accepted Answer

Ora DJ gives you fast search, flexible filtering, custom tags, and visual organization designed around the way DJs think about their music. The goal is to help you rediscover tracks you forgot you had and find the right next track faster, instead of always reaching for the same recent imports.

Question 8

Can I connect my DJ controller?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Connect a controller with a built-in mapping, or create a custom mapping for any controller that sends MIDI. Then test transitions and rehearse sections directly inside Ora DJ while the set is still taking shape.

Question 9

Can I import my Rekordbox or Traktor library?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ora DJ reads libraries directly from Rekordbox, Traktor, and Serato, including supported tracks, playlists, cues, and metadata. It does not change those source databases. You can export a finished playlist straight to a USB for CDJs, or for Rekordbox or Traktor.

Question 10

Will Ora DJ work with my MIDI controller?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if it sends MIDI. The DDJ-400, DDJ-FLX4, DDJ-GRV6, DDJ-1000, DDJ-1000SRT, DDJ-800, DDJ-FLX10, DDJ-FLX2, DDJ-FLX6, DDJ-SB3, and Numark MixTrack Go have built-in mappings. For other MIDI controllers, Ora DJ guides you through a custom mapping and saves it for the next session.

Question 11

How does MIDI controller mapping work?

Accepted Answer

When Ora DJ sees a MIDI controller without a built-in mapping, choose "Map controller." Move or press the hardware control for each action you want to assign, review the result, and save it. You can map a Shift control and reverse controls whose direction runs the wrong way.

Question 12

Can I trust Ora DJ not to mess up my library?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ora DJ never writes into your Rekordbox or Traktor database. It reads your library once on import and leaves the original untouched. On top of that, your Ora DJ library is backed up automatically every day, so in the unlikely event something goes wrong, you can restore one of your previous backups at any time.

Question 13

Can I use Ora DJ without a DJ controller?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. The controller is optional, for hands-on rehearsal. The rest of Ora DJ (library management, chapters, canvas, and Rekordbox import) all works without a controller connected.

Question 14

Does Ora DJ work on Mac and Windows?

Accepted Answer

Both. On macOS, Ora DJ is one app for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Ora DJ for Windows is in public beta and runs on Windows 11 (64-bit).

Question 15

How much does Ora DJ cost?

Accepted Answer

Question 16

Does the 10,000-track limit apply to Ora Free?
